We don’t normally report on German releases unless there’s something a bit out of the blue that isn’t surfacing in other territories and that’s something that’s happened this week. One of the more sought after series from the last decade is Paranoia Agent, which was the late Satoshi Kon’s foray into TV anime while doing some very impressive theatrical work, most of which is pretty much out of print and hard to find at this point. Paranoia Agent was released by Geneon Entertainment and the last box set hit back in the summer of 2005, which runs for several hundred dollars through most auction houses these days. Now, Kaze Germany is set to release the series in some form on Blu-ray in the spring of 2014. Details aren’t available yet but with Kaze picking it up there, it gives some hope that the show could start to appear in other territories as it goes on as that’s often – but not always – the case.
Plot concept: “When the darkness overcomes the heart, Little Slugger appears….” After the first victim’s story, the police felt the overly stressed woman was having a breakdown and lied to cover-up for some crime. However, after the third and fourth attacks upon unrelated victims led to the same description of a young attacker with a golden baseball bat and in-line skates, the police had to wonder- is the “Lil’ Slugger” real or a sinister phantom?
