For those that don’t follow the behind the scenes drama of Hollywood, you may not make much of having recent Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara talking about the Batman/Superman film or the new Harry Potter Universe films coming up. But what’s important to note is that because of all the drama, which I admit I thoroughly enjoy reading about all summer from various corners, Tsujihara has a whole lot to prove after coming in after the Robinov era and what brought to it. And he’s taking the reins amid some serious changes as Warner Bros. has pulled back some from funding with others, notably with Legendary Pictures now co-financing with Universal and bringing their projects there.
Tsujihara has a lot at stake in getting some big tentpoles out there to make his mark on the Warner Bros. lot and what they’re doing with the Batman/Superman film has definitely created a lot of noise, drama, criticism and, yes, praise. And not surprisingly, he has nothing but praise for Affleck but also a glimpse into what kind of character of Batman he’ll be playing, saying that the character will be “tired, and kind of weary and seasoned.”
“Ben is perfect for the vision Zack has for that character. The fact that you saw such a passionate response in the blogosphere is really kind of a testament to the love that people have for this character.”
Tsujihara said several more DC superhero-related announcements are set “for the coming months,” involving video games, consumer products, television and film.
“DC really does touch a lot of parts of our business and is an important part of the strategy in how we’re going to grow going forward,” he said.
