Thor The Dark World

While it may not have gotten a lot of pre-release buzz or mainstream attention, this weekends release of Best Man Holiday pretty much made it a competitive weekend as it landed with $30.5 million, taking second place while having a strong Friday where it came in first. Thor: The Dark World had a better hold than some might have thought, dropping just 55 percent, which is worse than the first film but better than other recent superhero films and it’s close to what Skyfall did in the same release frame. Thor: The Dark World added another $38 million to its coffers and between last weekend and weekday showings, now has a domestic total of $147 million. Expectations are that even with the competition coming up with Catching Fire, it’ll hit $250 million domestically. The first film did $181 million domestically when it came out in 2011. The sequel is now on track with $332 million overseas where it had another strong weekend as it continues to roll out, especially when you compare the $268 million foreign take it had in total for the original. Worldwide, the new film is at $480 million.
