Set for release in Japan on January 18th, 2014, Warner Bros. Japan has started streaming the full trailer for the live action adaptation of the Black Butler manga by Yana Toboso. The film is not adapting the manga directly as it’s actually set in 2020 as opposed to 19th century England. The reason for this, according to the director, was that if they kept it in England they wouldn’t have been able to cast any Japanese actors for it.
The manga is being released in North America by Yen Press while the two anime seasons have been released by FUNimation.
Plot concept: Set in the year 2020, Shiori Genbo (Ayame Gouriki) runs the large corporation Funtom. Shiori is also a descendant is a descendant of prestigious noble family Phantomhive of England. As a descendant of the noble family Phantomhive, Shiori solves difficult cases which are ordered by the queen. In order to take revenge, Shiori makes a deal with Butler Sebastian (Hiro Mizushima). Their deal involves Butler Sebastian protecting Ciel until her revenge is fulfilled and then Sebastian will consume Shiori’s spirit.
