NouCome Episode 10

Wherein Kanade gets some pretty dangerous choices.

What They Say:
Kanade Amakusa – a boy cursed with the mental power who will turn any multiple-choice quiz he thinks about into a reality. However, one day in school, he is given another choice: a beautiful girl will fall before him or he will fall from the rooftop in female clothes. Although he chooses the first option and it comes true, he and his new-chosen love – Chocolat – are in for a hilarious multiple-choice adventure.

Spending a lot of the time in the previous episode at an indoor water resort, NouCome manages to not be as bad as it could be nor as good as it could be. With a series like this where it’s all about putting Kanade into some terribly awkward situations, things felt a bit more restrained than they would be otherwise. But there were fun moments to be had since he was put in awkward situations and he handled them as best as he could considering all these girls are around him in swimsuits and simply messing with his head. Not always consciously of course, but there are enough of them that are toying with him in their own ways to make his life very difficult.

With this episode continuing on events at the resort, we get Kanade thrown into more problems along the way, including some time spent with Yuouji as she gets him to go through the little house of horrors that exists in the sprawling place, and that allows her to get completely scared and cling to his back in a big way. It’s standard fare material and even with the quirks of this show, doesn’t stand out much. But with the two together and seen by others, it sets more of the jealousies up to be dealt with. The two spend a good bit of time together and there’s some nice mild bonding going on, but we also see how the other girls make their way towards him after she leaves for a bit and that just puts him on edge. Kanade is largely intent with just getting past his curse, but he also doesn’t want to hurt anyone either, through the curse itself or just from his own actions. And that often puts him in more of a bind.

Of course, it’s not fun unless there’s trouble of course and when the three main girls all get upset with each other over things, that’s when God comes out and puts up the latest challenge, which has him having to confess his love to one of them. There’s an out, but you have to distrust the out. With the fourth choice being something happening to Aqua Galaxy, it’s the safer choice for Kanade but it just leads into a whole lot of weirdness that he and Chocolat do their best to try and stave off. The whole thing turns into a near confession that puts a lot of pressure on everyone, but the show takes an amusing weather twist as it goes on and you have to like the way it just softens all the tension overall. Naturally, there’s a misunderstanding or two along the way, but mostly it’s just plain silly without any real resolution. But that’s part of the charm here.

In Summary:
NouCome definitely has a bit more fun this time around as God pushes him towards some awkward decisions that will make his life hell should he make the wrong one. Of course, there is no right choice at this point and that’s what makes it a truly silly experience. With this series running only ten episodes, plus an OVA to come later, it’s obvious there would be no resolution. But what the show does here is just have fun with the silliness of the situation and what it’s like for Kanade. It’s completely unbelievable on so many levels but it’s the kind of good fun turn your brain off show that I look forward to each season so that I can just enjoy it. With lots of fanservice, sexuality and inappropriate situations for real life, it’s a cute way to spend time and it’s a show that I’d definitely want to see again someday. And more of as well.
