In a rather welcome change of pace to how most anime advertising goes with either the opening credits or a bunch of clips crammed together, FUNimation has put together an interesting advertisement for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray anime release. Yes, yes, there’s all the facts about how the video of the series itself is in widescreen and the issues there. But look beyond that for a moment to see how well this commercial connects in showing us men who grew up on the show on Saturday mornings reliving it with their cereal, dads showing it to their kids and some of the general siliness that comes from being a fan. And while it’s not hugely strong, they do include a couple of female fans as well which is very welcome to see since the series does have plenty of those as well. The ad could have been a bit more balanced with that though I think.
