The slow but steady push towards the 2014 debut of Star Wars: Rebels is certainly underway and the official YouTube channel has a new interview piece up with Simon Kinberg. Serving as the executive producer on the show and involved heavily in its creation while also handling a lot of other things at Fox these days, the three minute interview gives us a look at some of what he’s been into over the years with his own work but also the formative side with how Star Wars itself was one of the early things that influenced him.
There’s also some talk about how the Inquisitor was created and the kind of reverence there is for Darth Vader as a villain, which has certainly held up well over the years.
Kinberg’s also asked what his favorite film is and he definitely answers that right. “Empire Strikes Back without question,” Kinberg says, citing the drama between Vader and Luke Skywalker as the most resonant story in the films.
“Rebels is going to be the first point of entry for a new generation of Star Wars fans,” he says, “and it will hopefully be a point of return for existing Star Wars fans.”
