We saw back in August that The Last Ship got its fourth season renewal as the series continues to do very well for the network. Now, they’ve made some minor changes to what they’re planning as they’ve renewed it for a fifth season as well. While originally believed that the fourth season would be thirteen episodes like the third season, the fourth and fifth seasons, expected to film back to back, will be for ten episodes each and come out in the summer of 2017 and summer of 2018. I’d hazard a guess that it’ll end at that point as well.
The second season in full had an average of nine million viewers across all their platforms, including streaming, and this season is current at about 7.6 million as it moves into the finale this coming weekend.
Plot concept: In the wake of last season’s cliffhanger finale, the crew of the Nathan James steers toward Asia when President Michener (Mark Moses) learns that the Chinese leader is hoarding a cure for a devastating pandemic. Chandler sets out to investigate, even as new rumors surface of a possible new virus mutation hitting Japan.
