Bryan Singer can usually be found talking about his projects on Twitter, especially with the soon to be released X-Men: Days of Future Past, but today he’s getting out in magazine form with Entertainment Weekly. There’s going to be a fair bit of press lead-up to the release of the new film, but that also means he’ll be more than happy to talk about the next installment, X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be focused more on the First Class team as it’s expected those from the original trilogy will be making their exit after Days of Future Past. In the interview, he does talk about the production and his hopes with it. “I’m co-writing the story and I’m producing it. I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it.”
Considering the way he ended up in Days of Future Past, it’s good to see that he’s going into this one a bit more straightforward rather than taking it on after the presumed director opted out of it. It also gives him a bit more leeway in connecting the two films directly, which he says, “I’m still deciding [whether Days of Future Past will feature an Apocalypse tease]. Something that happens in this movie causes what’s going to happen in that movie.”
Also of interest is that he’s going to dabble in what Apocalypse the character is all about as the character is a deep part of how mutants exist. “It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.”
