New winter 2014 anime series Nobunagun has gotten its home video marching orders in Japan and it’s certainly interesting to see how this one is being done. Rather than a series of six or so DVD and Blu-ray releases, it’s coming in two box sets for each format with the first set containing the first six episodes while the second set has the remaining seven episodes. The Blu-ray sets are both priced at 15,750 yen each while the DVD sets are priced at 13,650 yen each. The first set is due on April 23rd while the second is on July 23rd.
The first set has some solid first press and on-disc material to be had. There will be a “zero volume” twenty-eight page manga by the original creator as well as a special drama CD. A regular booklet is also planned for the release. On-disc extras include a clean opening and an audio commentary track of some nature so far.
Plot concept: Shio Ogura, a seemingly normal Japanese high school student, who, while visiting Taiwan on a school trip, is suddenly attacked by monsters. Agents known as “E-Gene Holders” from the government agency DOGOO also arrive, who wield weapons infused with the spirits of historical figures. However in the midst of it all, Shio is revealed to also be an E-Gene Holder when the soul of Oda Nobunaga awakens after she tries to rescue a friend.
