Superman-BatmanAfter being given the greenlight quickly after the debut of Man of Steel and having a date before a script was even in order, the announcement late Friday that the Batman/Superman film was getting delayed out of its 2015 slot is not a surprise. Originally slotted for July 17th, 2015, the film is now being pushed back until May 6th, 2016. Which in itself is going to be a part of a crowded 2016, something that 2015 was already feeling, as this film lands the same day as an untitled Marvel Studios project and a couple of weeks before X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27th, Amazing Spider-Man 3 on June 10th and another untitled Marvel Studios film on July 8th.

Warner Bros. Pictures said that the movie was to give “filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story,” the studio said Friday.

“We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next super hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever,” said Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of Warner Bros. Pictures’ international distribution.
