Some properties you just can’t keep down, and sometimes you don’t even hear that they came up. Originally a novel in 1951 by John Wyndham, it was eventually made into a 196 feature film, it had a few radio dramas over the decades as well and two TV series that were done back in 1981 and 2009. Now the property is getting another go around with a big picture film being prepped by Ghost House Pictures with mike Newel set to direct it based off of the original work itself. Mike Newel has a few credits to his name that make him potentially ideal for this as he’s worked on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as well as Prince of Persia but also more personal films like Donnie Brasco. This isn’t the first time a director has been attached to the project as Ghost House Pictures originally had Sam Raimi lined up, but it’s looking like things may come together better this time around. No release dates or distributors are set with this yet.
Original concept: The triffids are a monstrous species of stinging plant; they walk, they talk, they dominate the world. The narrator of this novel wakes up in hospital to find that, by missing the end of the world, he has survived to witness a new world. But the new world that awaits him is fantastic and horrific.
