While Sony Pictures released Tekkon Kinkreet in the US on Blu-ray not long after the format launch back in 2007, it looks like the feature never got a release in Japan on the format. Aniplex Japan is now fixing that as they’ve scheduled the feature for release on April 23rd, 2014 priced at 5,040 yen for it. The release doesn’t have a breakdown of technical details so it’s not listing languages or subtitle options at the moment, but it’s likely to just be Japanese only, though since it got a good push worldwide they may include more options. At the moment, it’s just listed as having a booklet and a slipcover for it.
The US release from Sony, which is still available on Blu-ray and DVD from retailers though out of print from the distributor, has a few extras on it including A Conversation with Director Michael Arias and British Rock Band Plaid, Filmmaker Commentary and The Making of Tekkon – Director Michael Arias’ 300 Day Diary.
Plot concept: In Treasure Town, where the moon smiles and young boys can fly, life can be both gentle and brutal. This is never truer than for our heroes, Black and White, two street urchins who watch over the city, doing battle with an array of old-world Yakuza and alien assassins vying to rule the decaying metropolis. Tekkon Kinkreet is a dynamic tale of brotherhood that addresses the faults of present day society, true love lost, and the kindness of the human heart.
