Frequent collaborators on the comic book side Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle have score themselves a very good deal in that they’ve been chosen as the screenwriters for the third as of yet undated but expected Thor movie. Yost was one of the screenwriters for the second film and the pair have worked togther on a number of projects on the Marvel animated side of things, including The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. A third installment was all but a given considering the tracking for the character so far. Played by Chris Hemsworth, the first film introduced Asgard with Kenneth Branagh directing and then shifted to The Avengers, where the character got a lot of exposure with the other characters and a lot more attention. The second feature for him was directed by Alan Taylor and did strong numbers. The original film brought in $449 million worldwide upon release while the second installment got a 40% Avengers bump, bringing it up to $633 million. Marvel Studios has not said much about the project in general, though it’s expected to be a Phase Three film some time after Avengers: Age of Ultron. Chris Hemsworth is expected to return based on the original casting contract and Marvel has two untitled dates for 2016 and 2017 that it could figure into, one of which may be the third Captain America film as well.
“I am proud of Craig and have enjoyed working with him over these past years,” Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios said. “His creative instincts have helped shape “Thor” and “Thor: The Dark World” at every level of the filmmaking process. The entire team at Marvel is very happy to continue collaborating with Craig as he continues as a screenwriter working with Christopher on the forthcoming chapter of Thor’s adventure.”
