Sweet Poolside
While some authors are generally focused on a particular genre or style, some manage to have a wider breadth of work to put out there. Shuzo Oshimi is known mostly for his recent work The Flowers of Evil, but he also put out a short eight chapter series in 2011 called Sweet Poolside, which is being adapted into a feature film that’s due out on June 14thm 2014 in Japan. The first thirty second teaser has debuted that shows off Kenta Suga as the male lead, Toshihiko, and Yukio Kariya as the female lead, Ayako. The film is directed by Daigo Matsui who did the 2013 live action adaptation of Daily Lives of High School Boys. Shochiku is distributing the film
Original Concept: Toshihiko Ota (Kenta Suga) is a first year high school student. He is a member of the school’s swimming club. He also suffers from not having enough body hair.
Meanwhile, Ayako Goto (Yuiko Kariya) is also a fellow first year high school student and member of the same swimming club. She suffers from having too much hair. She confides to Toshihiko Ota about her “hairy” problem. A relationship soon develops as Toshihiko begins to shave her arm and leg hair.
