While there’s usually a bit of hedging going on with what the plans will be for a new simulcast series if a home video license is made, Viz Media went against the norm a bit with their announcement of Blood Lad. The new series from Kadokawa is getting its simulcast started this Sunday on VizAnime.com as well as Hulu.com and they’ve also announced that the show will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray in 2014 along with a dubbed run on the Neon Alley service.
The series is animated by Brains Base and is based off of the manga of the same name by Yuuki Kodama, which is being released in North American by Yen Press. Viz Media has also released a subtitled version of one of the promotional videos which you can see below.
Plot Concept: Staz is the vampire boss of a section of the demon world, but he has little interest in human blood. He’s more infatuated with Japanese culture. When he learns that Yanagi Fuyumi, a Japanese teenage girl, accidentally wanders into the demon city, he jumps to the occasion. However, while Staz deals with an intruder on his turf, the oblivious Fuyumi is killed by a monster and becomes a wandering ghost. The disappointed Staz vows to her that he will find a way to bring Fuyumi back to life.
