‘Gotham’ Pilot Finds Its Lead Actor

GothamAs with any series, no matter how interesting the concept, if you can’t put good actors behind it you can’t really make a good run of it. With the pilot in the works for Gotham, which has seen its share of reveals so far when it comes to how Bruce Wayne will be handled and the villains, we’ve now got the central piece that will make it all work or not. The series has brought in Ben McKenzie of Southland fame to take on the role of James Gordon. McKenzie definitely has the look for it and the police procedural experience in a tough world as well which will make it an easy sell in getting him into here for fans who are already quite antagonistic about the show. McKenzie got his start originally with Warner Bros. TV back in 2004 with THe O.C. and then headed off to Southland after that. Amusingly, McKenzie played the role of Bruce Wayne & Batman in the recent Batman: Year One animated series.

Plot concept: Gotham explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon (McKenzie) and the gordonvillains that made Gotham City famous. It includes younger versions of Bruce Wayne and Alfred as well villains the Riddler, Catwoman, the Joker and the Penguin. In Gotham, Gordon is an idealistic rookie detective for Gotham City Open Police Department’s Homicide Squad, a former college football star and a war hero.
