What They Say:
On the blue and green planet of Aquafall: a storm of meteorites blasts through the atmosphere towards this peaceful planet, delivering an unknown scourge threatening all living creatures with extinction. Syrop makes a plea to enlist all the strongest of this world to join the Aquafall Defense, for she cannot save the planet alone. While traveling, Syrop encounters three very talented warriors from the three dragon clans: Jörmungand, Bahamut, and Leviatan, each with a unique set of abilities that just might save the planet from its destruction.

With the group having made their way back to their home village and each of them dealing with different things of varying degrees, but most especially Bahamut and her parental relation issues, it’s all set against the arrival of the Lucasite. That big bad off in the distance has set the town on edge, but they have to do something to face off against it. Poor Bahamut is just so distraught over finding out that her father isn’t her father though that she’s just moping through the town more than anything else, at least until her father does come across her and tries to make it clear that they really are father and daughter because of the time they’ve spent together. It’s a weak little bit put at the end of things that’s just forced, especially in context to the other two and Syrop being on the front line against the Lucasite.
It takes a bit, with Jormungand and Leviatan planning and fighting against the Lucasite on their own with the help of a guardian sphere, but when Bahamut finally does arrive we’re able to get our obligatory group transformation sequence so they can be fully powered up and able to deal with the threat at hand. While it takes a few minutes, they do manage to finish off the enemy and it just gets them all on the same page to join the Aquafall Defense. It’s a kind of growing up moment in particular for Bahamut but mostly it’s just the piece of epilogue fluff that the show was obviously going to do. It also comes across very much as that first chapter of a much larger storyline feeling, which is pretty scary considering how awful the show has been overall since the get go.
In Summary:
That was one long, long series. Too long and too full of nothing. The pacing, the story structure, the design of it and the animation all feels like it’s something that was done in the 90′s and the sensibility of someone in their teens more than anything else. It’s wholly predictable and mind numbingly dull. It is pretty much the worst show of the spring season that I saw and stuck with, mostly because I couldn’t believe it was this bad. It has its cute moments here and there, but there’s really nothing to recommend the show with as it just doesn’t do anything to engage or delight on a consistent basis with its story or characters. Avoid at all costs to ones mentality.
