The casting continues for Gotham after initially giving us our Jim Gordon in Ben Mackenzie and then adding several more characters and a villain. Now we’ve got another piece of casting news out as Donal Logue has joined it to take on the role of Harvey Bullock. Logue has been around for a number of years and gained some fame in Sons of Anarchy and is in the current/upcoming season of Vikings as well. According to the character description, Bullock is Gordon’s partner and mentor. He plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results — and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.
The character was originally introduced in 1974 in Detective Comics #441 as part of the Batman slate of titles and he was created by Archie Goodwin and Howard Chaykin. The character has had a long and varied history over the years, reworked through various reboots as well, but has largely kept to the general design and premise as described in the character piece above.
The character was seen in the 1989 film in the form of Lt. Eckhardt as played by William Hootkins. The character was also in numerous animated DC Comics films as well.
