Battle Angel Alita – The Last Order Volume 16

While James Cameron is still talking about working through his two Avatar sequels with plans for release in 2015 and 2016, there’s always that nagging little thing he’s always getting prodded about with Battle Angel. The manga series continues to run and be released outside of Japan, though the 1990′s anime OVA episode continues to be unlicensable because of his rights purchase for the big screen adaptation, but there’s always a little word or two he says here and there about it being made someday and that he intends to do when he has time.

That cropped up again for the first time this year while he was in Mexico City for the TagDF technology forum. We hadn’t really heard anything from Cameron about the project since last year, but when the Oscar-winning filmmaker was down in Mexico City earlier this week to speak at the technology forum TagDF. According to one local who was there, Diario La Verdad, and reported on the comments. The main gist of what he said was that he does plan to start development of the film after he finishes the other projects and that 2017 is his goal to get it underway. He also noted to the audience that “its themes of trans-human exploration has “haunted” him for years.”
