While we had some inkling of pieces of these before with the original D23 Expo trailer that was out but also removed very quickly online by Disney, we’ve now got the full clear look at the rap sheets for the main cast of Guardians of the Galaxy through the trailer. The film, set for an August 1st release, is one that is definitely going to fit in well with the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, though just like every other film so far, there are plenty of comments going around that it’s going to bomb for a whole host of reasons or that it looks awful, etc. etc. Which we’ve seen when every trailer for a Marvel film comes up, so they’re fairly easy to ignore. Not that we’re saying the film will be awesome no matter what, but the opening trailer hits some very big, positive notes for us. What we get here is a big character introduction piece and the tone of it all. There’s some good flashes of action and a strong sense of humor. The lack of a villain is something that I’m sure many will dissect, but at this point, because it is a new property, the focus is on the “good guys” first and the tone of the film.
And the tone is one that is hugely important because it’s not relying on appearances or direct connections to any Avengers characters since they’re not in it or given as a launching step for it. It’s all about this weird group. And we haven’t even seen the whole group yet.

To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.
