Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode 8

Sometimes doing something nice puts you into a difficult spot.

What They Say:
Yuya and Mitsuki have recently become brother and sister because of their parents remarrying. Mitsuki is having a hard time opening up to her new family, but their parents leave for a foreign country right after getting married before that can get any better. As Mitsuki is troubled by her new life living alone with Yuya, a amnesiac ghost girl, Hiyori, appears before her, and she is forced to help her pass on to the next world…

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Into every life a little change must fall and that has happened once again for Yuya. When the well connected young woman in class gives him some tickets to an aquarium, it opens up the potential for him to take Mitsuki there since it could be fun. And let’s be honest, as decent and nice as Yuya is, he’s not exactly dating anyone. And it also says a lot, in a good way really, that he thinks first of bringing Mitsuki instead of finding someone else to go. Since the two of them are still figuring each other out due to the new living arrangements, it’s a nice thing to do, at least in my view, to take her someone and do some get to know you kinds of things. Of course, you know that it’s not exactly going to go smoothly because of not just Hiyori but also the way that Mitsuki herself is handling things these days in general and between the two of them after some of the recent situations.

Things get tense between the two of them easily enough, especially since there are things that come up that just drives a wedge, including a comical sequence in the first half where Hiyori starts making Mitsuki’s breasts huge, but it was all a dream. One she wakes up to by stating she’s glad her breasts are small, which of course is when Yuya enters and makes the whole thing uncomfortable. He tries to ease out of the problem by giving her the tickets, though it turns out his intention is to give the pair to her. But before he can handle that, Hiyori bombs into her body and is super excited for a date with her brother that he has no choice but to go along with it since he doesn’t want to disappoint her. Hiyori’s such a radically different personality from Mitsuki that it has to be like whiplash in dealing with her sometimes since it changes on a dime.

The show spends most of its time at the aquarium but it moves back and forth between who is in control of Mitsuki’s body for a time, which makes it uncomfortable for Mitsuki for a bit since she manages to regain control and actually likes being out on a date of sorts with Yuya. He’s kind of oblivious to it all in a way since he’s just enjoying the time out and it’s kind of nice to see him being the innocent here instead of conniving for ways to get to her. Of course, there are a few erotic things that happen along the way and the bit with the fish that nibble at your skin is quite comical since it just hits her so well and ends up upsetting her since it builds up so much. But it’s once again that kind of moment where a touch of kindness kinds of resets things between the two of them and gets her to look at Yuya in another way than she would have, mostly because he is just that – kind.

In Summary:
While we’ve had a lot of material in the series that has had Hiyori really working things up when it comes to Yuya for interaction, this one lets Mitsuki take more of it in a way. Kicking it off with Hiyori in control is expected and seeing Mitsuki panic works nicely, but I like that Mitsuki takes control more and has to confront with the situation herself rather than letting Hiyori dominate it. It leads to some really awkward material of course, but it also brings us to a moment that really lets us know a bit more about Mitsuki and how she may really fall for Yuya in a way that’s natural and honest because of his natural kindness. Yuya continues to be a fun character for me to watch in all of this since he’s playing it normal, almost the straight man in it all, and keeping his pervy level low and kind of reactionary in a way that works.
