Running for seemingly forever, Toonami has announced that they no longer have the broadcast rights to Inu Yasha. The series was a staple on the network for years, even when most other anime series had fallen off of the programming blocks, and has been rerun several times over. The loss of the show will open up for a new series to take its place though. While the original run, which has been released on DVD in seven seasonal collections, had a solid run, the sequel series Final Act was never broadcast and fans who watched only through the broadcast versions never got to see it come to a conclusion.
With the license lost to broadcast it, it’ll be interesting to see how Viz Media utilizes the property from there. They released the movies on Blu-ray in a complete set last year.
Plot concept: Kagome Higurashi, an average ninth grader, gets pulled into an ancient well by a demon, bringing her 500 years in the past to the feudal era. There, she meets Inuyasha, a half-demon who seeks the Shikon Jewel to make himself a full-fledged demon. With Inuyasha and new friends, Kagome’s search for the Jewel of Four Souls begins…
