Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode 10

Sometimes getting what you wished for isn’t a good thing.

What They Say:
Yuya and Mitsuki have recently become brother and sister because of their parents remarrying. Mitsuki is having a hard time opening up to her new family, but their parents leave for a foreign country right after getting married before that can get any better. As Mitsuki is troubled by her new life living alone with Yuya, a amnesiac ghost girl, Hiyori, appears before her, and she is forced to help her pass on to the next world…

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
The ups and downs of the story here have been fairly decent overall, though the show has managed to not be as potentially awful as it could have been based on its initial selling. A lot of the fun comes from the simple misunderstandings that exist but with the two leads not being related, well, that’s eased a lot of the pressures. The awkwardness still comes there, especially with the supernatural side and the chastity belt and all, and we’re seeing how Mitsuki is really having a hard time coping with the situations she’s been caught in and how Yuya is potentially viewing her. Of course, the big elephant in the room is that more often than not, Yuya is actually seeing Hiyori when she and Mitsuki aren’t in the same body and that’s not really had a serious impact yet. But at least it’s been noticed.

This episode kicks off with a bit of an odd feeling though as Mitsuki says some untoward things about Hiyori and that gets Hiyori to just high-tail it out of there for awhile since she’s hurt and upset. That gives Mitsuki some time to herself, something she hasn’t had since she moved in here with Yuya and his father. That makes it clear that it’s been a rough couple of months for her and she’s actually enjoying some of the downtime without anyone around. Interacting with Yuya is difficult though since she’s got a lot going on and she gives off an amusingly upset kind of vibe that Yuya picks up on at least. Since Hiyori has been a part of her life since moving in with Yuya, now having time just between the two of them is making her hyper aware of the lack of Hiyori and how much her presence has changed her life.

Not surprisingly, the more that Hiyori is away, the more that Mitsuki misses her and worries about her, especially since she might have crossed over. Yuya does his best to help, but it’s hard for Mitsuki to take him seriously since he can’t see her. At least until Yuya says that he can, which makes the whole thing really weird for her in trying to figure out. There’s a nice bit of seriousness about things as it plays out, but you also know that Hiyori is going to come back and when she does it could get weirder. As it turns out, she went away in order to get a newly designed belt for Mitsuki since Mitsuki complained about it so much, but she ended up getting something even more hideous, which has its moments of hilarity that are broken up by the cuteness of how Mitsuki realizes just how much she really missed Hiyori.

In Summary:
Having a little bit of a rift between Hiyori and Mitsuki certainly makes sense considering the way their relationship has gone so far in the series and having Hiyori disappear for a bit isn’t a bad thing. While she gets less screen time for awhile until the gag ending, we get to see more of how Yuya handles Mitsuki and the way Mitsuki realizes she’s missing and worried about Hiyori when she doesn’t come back soon enough. With the show having taken place over a few months now, we get a better feel for things and this episode makes it clear where everyone stands while also bringing out the reveal about what Yuya has been seeing lately.
