A pretty timely piece of manga has had part its story made available in English today as Ichi Efu by Kazuto Tatsuta has its first chapter online through a special Facebook page. The work is translated and lettered by longtime translator William Flanagan with editing by Julie Davis while Takayuki Karahashi serves as a technical consultant for the project since it deals with TEPCO and the nuclear industry. The manga originally started in late October 2013 in Morning magazine and is Tatsuta’s first work. Ichi Efu has a few translations but the primary one seems to be 1F – Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant Work Log.
According to World Nuclear News, Kazuto Tatsuta is a former worker and one of several thousand people that have worked since March 2011 to stabilise, clean up and decommission the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Based on this first-hand experience, he was motivated to create a manga to show the realities of the site and the lives of the workers.
