Recently, My Sister Is Unusual Episode 11

What could go wrong with the gang heading to a hot spring inn?

What They Say:
Yuya and Mitsuki have recently become brother and sister because of their parents remarrying. Mitsuki is having a hard time opening up to her new family, but their parents leave for a foreign country right after getting married before that can get any better. As Mitsuki is troubled by her new life living alone with Yuya, a amnesiac ghost girl, Hiyori, appears before her, and she is forced to help her pass on to the next world…

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
As the series starts to throw in a few more interesting points, it’s also settled down a lot from those first few episodes. I rather liked the emotional side that came in recently with the thought of Hiyori going missing or passing on to the other side and how Mitsuki reacted since she realized how much of a positive impact she’s had beyond the main negatives. We also get the growing nudging going on about Yuya having seen Hiyori a number of times when Mitsuki thought nobody could see him. That’s a conflicting bit of material that hopefully gets resolved in this season so we understand why it’s happening, but it does generally add a little bit of confusion to the situation that keeps Mitsuki wondering what’s going on and adds a little cute chaos as well.

Events here take a predictable turn in a way as Mitsuki and Hiyori end up winning a prize while out shopping that lets them take a weekend getaway at an inn. Naturally, a number of other people show up and Yuya is included in this as well, which basically means we transplant a number of the core cast out of their usual environment to someplace else. Which gets Mitsuki all in a tizzy since she can feel the way Hiyori’s thinking of the situation and it gets her a little excited even though she doesn’t want to. Not surprisingly, it’s a hot spring in so we get plenty of semi-nudity there with the girls enjoying the baths and some of the usual silliness that goes on. But it also gives the girls a chance to talk a bit and we get some of Yuki talking about her childhood with Yuya and how he was as a child, since there’s a lot of general interest in him since he is one of those basic nice guys that are out there. Seeing Mitsuki getting a bit jealous in a way is interesting, especially since it’s balanced by Hiyori getting all uptight about it.

Of course, there has to be some fun in the water itself, as we get Yuya and Yuki accidentally in the bath together and that leads to the two of them talking a bit. Yuki obviously has an interest in him beyond just friends and she tries to nudge a little bit of that out, but she’s not overt enough and Yuya’s dense enough to just plain miss it. But it also happens as Mitsuki and Hiyori overhear and that gets things a bit more complicated since Hiyori overreacts while Mitsuki simply withdraws, which will cause her belt to cause some problems. There’s some pretty predictable moments with all of this, but I’ll easily admit that I like seeing the struggle that Mitsuki is going through as we get her inner dialogue and the kind of awkwardness that comes later as Yuki tries to smooth things over a bit, not realizing what the real problem is.

In Summary:
Taking the group and transplanting them to an inn for an episode is fairly common practice and what we get here is largely that. There’s fun in the water with the girls in various states of undress and a little mild naughtiness, but it’s once again a far tamer series than you might expect. The real fun comes in seeing the moments between Yuki and Yuya when they end up in the hot spring together and some of the dialogue that comes from it. While I do like Mitsuki and don’t care for Hiyori, there’s something about Yuki that just draws me to her even with as little as we’ve gotten compared to the others. Seeing the two of them together just reinforces that, though Yuya is once again the typical thick as a brick male lead.
