While we’ve had a good run of TV episodes previously for Kenichi – The Mightiest Disciple and the show has done very well in continuing on in OVA form, so much so that we just had more released last month with the 55th volume of the manga. Now that there’s nine of them out there, they’re getting a brief broadcast run this spring – because there’s hardly anything on you know – that begins on April 9th, 2014. Kadokawa, through the ClubSundayTV channel, has released a new 36 second spot to promote that run which will give fans a new way to see it that might not have been aware of the OVAs.
The TV series was released by FUNimation in North America and was a surprise hit for the company that exceeded expectations with the first collection, causing them to fast-track the acquisition and release of the second season. Both seasons are currently available only on DVD.
Series concept: Kenichi’s a total wimp. He’s always getting picked on and doesn’t have a lot of friends to stick up for him. The guy needs motivation if he hopes to graduate in one piece. Well, Miu’s the perfect motivation. She’s hot, she accepts him, and she just so happens to live at a dojo with six martial arts masters.
You could say fate has led Kenichi to their door, or you could say he was just following the hottie. Either way, he’s about to get whipped into serious shape. If he can survive some hard-core training, he might survive another day at school. He might even score with Miu. Yeah, you could call Kenichi a wimp, but let’s go with underdog instead.
