With the way that Sony is expanding out its Spider-Man universe with the four films that are pretty much set for the title character and a pair of spinoff’s planned with Sinister Six and Venom, the question as to whether there’s a good female lead character to work with, at least outside of Black Cat, has landed most often on the character of Spider-Woman. The use of the character is one that has been pretty vague, as to be expected, as nobody that eals in the actual rights of things will say clearly until they’re ready to put their cards on the table. Jessica Drew is a long time character, but it’s unknown if the rights to it were included in the Spider-Man contracts with Sony that were set up ages ago or whether she still resides with Marvel Studios. And if she does still belong there, how much confusion would it sow to use her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or through the TV incarnations?
The question came up to Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, who has committed to the first three of the four planned films, ”Anything is possible, but that hasn’t been on my mind,” he said, ”but it’s an interesting idea.”
