With Nozomi Entertainment having released the first half of the classic 1982 series Space Adventure Cobra on DVD earlier this month, they’re now looking to expand it a bit with producer TMS Entertainment. The first two episodes of the series that ran for thirty-one episodes total is now available on Hulu in its original Japanese language form with English subtitles as no dub was ever produced for it. The series enjoyed a bit of a revival beginning in 2008 with some OVAs and new TV series materials produced to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, which sadly have gone unlicensed since their debut.
Plot concept: Seeking reprieve from a painfully ordinary 9-5 existence, mild-mannered office worker Johnson visits the TM Corporation, a company that sells virtual dreams. In Johnson’s dream adventure, he’s the notorious space pirate Cobra! Accompanied by his android partner Lady Armaroid, Cobra fights the lowlife scum of the Pirate Guild by day and saves sultry sirens of space by night. After the Journey is over, events unfold that bring reality into focus. His experience wasn’t a dream at all-it was a reawakening og his buried past! With the most feared weapon in the universe, the psycho Gun, Cobra sets out into the galaxy in pursuit of love, fortune and fame!
