While it’s not something that comes up for anime fans overseas in a lot of ways, there are a number of shows that get reruns in various regions in order to raise awareness, fill in some gaps or they’re just popular enough to keep running. In the Kanto region, Macross Frontier has been running and when the show ended today with its final episode, there was a teaser at the end that indicated that a new project is in the works. Of course, there aren’t any details beyond that, but a three second or so tease is more than enough to get fans excited.
The Macross franchise has been going on in various stages since the original series began in 1982, got extended towards the end of its run, and then began with a series of OVAs, repackages as movies and a number of other TV series that all take place within the overall continuity. Unfortunately, the vast majority of it is unavailable outside of Japan due to legal reasons, which has included simulcasting of the most recent incarnations, something that would have drawn a lot of attention to the projects but was otherwise stuck to just Japan.
