With the split in the way some of the Lucasfilm properties went, Disney did end up with the largely successful but difficult to work with Indiana Jones property. With the fourth film not exactly winning over audiences young or old, and Shia Lebouf certainly not going to become the heir apparent for Harrison Ford in the franchise, there’s plenty of speculation going on about what will happen. While there are conflicting reports going on about it at the moment based on various sources and high placement in studio systems, there’s been some talk of essentially going the James Bond route with casting since any feature that got underway right now would have Harrison Ford in his mid 70′s. And while there is an appeal and charm to work with there, it just won’t work well in general, even if Ford is still interested.
The speculation machine out there has Bradley Cooper’s named bandied about the most as taking over and most people seem to be pretty keen on the idea with his charm, looks and physicality that should handle it.
What do you think? Would someone else be better for it? The studio obviously isn’t going to let the property just languish in development hell for everyone and there are a lot of people that could be very keen on getting involved in all aspects of the production. But mostly, can there be a real handoff in who takes on the role, ala James Bond, or is that just wishful thinking?
