Part of the fun of dealing with looking at Japanese release solicitations is that you come up with some older properties that you haven’t heard of before that sound really intriguing or fun. The latest one to cross our desk is Makoto-chan, a movie that was released in 1980 by TMS. The Blu-ray release is scheduled for a July 2nd, 2014 release date with a price tag of 5,775 yen for the feature. The release will include a new interview with the creator.
The film is based on the manga of the same name by Kazuo Umezu, which ran from 1976 to 1981 for twenty-four volumes in Shounen Sunday. It had a short lived sequel in the same magazine in 1988 which ran for a year for a total of four volumes.
Plot concept: Follows the odd life of kindergartener Makoto Sawada and his family. Makoto gets into all sorts of toilet and adult humor. He sometimes dresses in his mother’s and sister’s clothing, and often has a long strand of mucus dangling from his nose.
