Crunchyroll has brought out a new simulcast acquisition as they continue to deal with new shows starting to premiere this week as they now have Chaika – The Coffin Princess. The show is set to debut today at 2pm ET with new episodes coming every Wednesday for premium members and a week later for free members. The property comes from writer Sakaki Ichirou, who is known for his work Scrapped Princess primarily. The series is getting animated by Bones with directer Soichi Masui set to direct, which is amusing since he did Scrapped Princess as well. The series will be adapted by Touko Machida while Nobuhiro Arai will be handling the character designs. Known as Hitsugime no Chaika in Japan, the novels began back in 2010 and a manga adaptation kicked off in late 2011.
The series will be available to their users in the U.S.A, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Turkey, Latin America (Central and South America including Caribbean), Europe (excluding German speaking territories), the Arab League, and the Middle East.
Plot concept: Based on the light novel written by Ichiro Sakaki, the story revolves around Toru Acura, a 20-year-old retired soldier who struggles to cope with ordinary life now that the war has ended. He meets Chaika Trabant, a 14-year-old sorceress carrying a coffin, and follows her in hopes of finding meaning to his life again. The two also travel with Toru’s adopted sister Akari, who is their main source of income.
