With the spring 2014 anime series Ping Pong the Animation moving right along, Aniplex Japan has set the home market DVD and Blu-ray releases schedule. Unlike most shows that get a six or seven volume run, this series, which runs for eleven episodes, is getting a single box set run that’s done in a complete and limited Blu-ray release and a complete and standard DVD box set release, all of which come out on August 27th, 2014:

COMPLETE BOX Blu-ray – 34,560 yen

COMPLETE BOX DVD – 30,24 yen

STANDARD BOX DVD - 23,760 yen

The complete edition has a number of good things going for it with a bonus disc to it where we get the original soundtrack. The box is drawn by Taiyo Matsumoto and inside we’ll be getting an original T-shirt included as well. On disc extras included an audio commentary, storyboards, clean opening and closing, the promotional videos and commercials for the series.

The series is based on the manga that ran for five volumes between 1996 and 1997. The original manga came from Taiyou Matsumoto, which spawned a 2002 live action film as well, and now Tatsunoko Productions will be bringing this to anime form in the spring with Masaaki Yuasa directing it.

Plot concept: Despite having drastically different personalities, high school boys Peco and Smile have been friends since childhood. Now, they’re both talented members of a table tennis club – but what happens when these sports lovers go up against each other in matches?
