The sixth and final cover was revealed recently for the Japanese release of Outbreak Company, which got a six volume DVD and Blu-ray release starting back on December 18th, 2013 in Japan. The release was pretty good overall as it gave fans the main cover and an alternate cover along the way that played up the fanservice side underneath. Not surprisingly, each cover is given over to a particular character or two but they all have a really appealing look to them overall. Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series for rleease in North America, and while we expect to see more of a group image, we’re hoping that these can find their way onto the release as well.
Studio feel is handling the animation for this series, which is an adaptation of Ichiro Sakaki’s light novel series of the same name. The fantasy/comedy series was originally published in 2011 with art by Yuugen and has had a positive response overall, though fans aren’t too sure about the angular facial designs that we get from the main visual below. Six volumes of the light novels have been published so far and a manga adaptation with artwork by Kiri Kajiya began back in November of 2012.
Plot concept: Shinichi Kanou’s father writes novels and his mother illustrates erotic video games, so perhaps it’s not unexpected that he’d end up as a fan of comics and science fiction. However, rather than channeling his efforts into creating like his parents, he has instead become one of the world’s foremost experts on “moe”, with a staggeringly encyclopedic knowledge of all things cute and adorable in every conceivable form of animation and media. This sort of explains Shinichi’s recruitment as an ambassador for moe to the Holy Eldant Kingdom, a parallel world where things that previously only existed in anime actually exist! So how will a hot blooded young otaku react when dropped into a world with actual cute and adorable elf maids and dragons? More importantly, how will THEY react to this drooling devotee with diplomatic credentials? And even more to the point, exactly WHY does the Japanese government feel that sending someone to represent Japan’s moe interests is a good idea in the first place? Sorry, no spoilers! If you want to learn more, you’ll have to come along for the adventure as the ultimate anime fans’ fanboy fantasy unfurls in OUTBREAK COMPANY!
