FUNimation made some waves late last year when they announced they would be carrying the English subtitled-only import Blu-ray releases for Ghost in the Shell: Arise, making it so that fans could get easy access to them while also making it clear that a bilingual version will be coming. The releases, priced at $69.98 each since they were coming directly from Japan as a distribution deal, were limited to 2,400 copies each. It looks like FUNimation must still have a few on hand as they’re looking to move the units now which first landed back in August 2013. The first two volumes have dropped in price from$69.98 to $39.98 and are on sale as well at 25% off, bringing it down to $29.99 each. Each volume is about an hour long and the second volume lists 37 minutes worth of extras as well. So if you’ve been waiting and want the import quality at a low price, this is definitely a steal.
Plot concept: In the year 2027, a year following the end of the non-nuclear World War IV, a bomb has gone off in Newport City, killing a major arms dealer who may have ties with the mysterious 501 Organization. Public Security official Daisuke Aramaki hires full-body cyber prosthesis user and hacker extraordinaire, Motoko Kusanagi, to investigate. On the case with her are “Sleepless Eye” Batou, who believes Kusanagi is a criminal, Niihama Prefecture Detective Togusa who is investigating a series of prostitute murders he believes are related to the incident, and Lieutenant Colonel Kurtz of the 501 Organization who also wishes to keep an eye on Kusanagi.
