Octavia Spencer
With the sequel to Divergent set to begin filming at the end of this month in Atlanta, Insurgent has added another of the new characters to the mix with the casting of Octavia Spencer as Johanna, the leader of the Amity faction of the planned four film series franchise. The first film landed earlier this year and while it wasn’t a Hunger Games level hit, Lionstage/Summit is putting in the work with hopes that as more installments come out it’ll raise all boats as the first film did about $250 million worldwide.
Directed by Robert Scwentke, the film stars Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Theo James, Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen and Amy Newbold.
Insurgent is set to debut on March 20th, 2015.
Plot concept: DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
