While there was some expectations of this happening on some level, the question of whether Cobie Smulders would play the character of Maria Hill in the TV series Agents of SHIELD has been answered. The actress, who took on the role in The Avengers, is gearing up for the final season of How I Met Your Mother but will appear in the pilot episode for Agents of SHIELD and apparently will be able to guest star in a few episodes of the first season.
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD,” said writer-director Joss Whedon. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”
This leaves the door open for more appearances should the show do well and hit a second season in 2014 as How I Met Your Mother would be done.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will premiere on ABC on Tuesday, September 24 at 8 p.m.
Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents including: Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May and Chloe Bennet as the mysterious computer hacker Skye.
