2 Guns
The dog days of August are here and there’s certainly going to be enough competition coming up with films coming out, but there’s also just a general fatigue that sets in for audiences at this point where it doesn’t draw out a huge number of people. Such is the case this weekend where 2 Guns topped the box office with a $27 million take, which is pretty good considering its $61 mllion budget and no overseas opening yet for an R rated action film. It has some solid star power to it and could be a good performer overall in the next few weeks, though it has only a B+ CinemaScore ranking by attendees.
The Wolverine is still struggling compared to the previous installment from back in 2009, though it’s doing very well overseas which will help in the long run. Smurfs 2 is proving to be a similar disappointment at the box office overall as well as over its five days it made $27 million and just $18 million over the weekend itself, which is a lot less than the previous one did in 2011 when it had almost no competition. This year there’s just a lot of kid flicks hitting and parents tend to go to only so many since it gets so expensive.
