Otakon: FUNimation Adds Even More Sunrise License Rescue Anime Series

Need more license rescues from the Bandai Entertainment catalog? FUNimation has stepped up with even more during their panel with some of the strong classics that cemented Bandai Entertainment’s reputation back in the late 90′s and into the 2000′s. Nothing is confirmed for formats on any of these, but they’ll likely all retain their bilingual release and get up to date collection style releases.

Outlaw Star
In the distant future, after humans left earth and started colonizing other planets, there lives a man named Gene Starwind and his young partner/brother, Jim Hawking. The two men run a small business on the planet Centinel 3 that claims “we can do any job.” Gene makes money on the side by bounty hunting. One day a woman comes to hire the men for personal protection, little do they know that she is actually an Outlaw in disguise. The following events lead Gene and Jim into a maze of trouble, searching for hidden trouble, running from the cops and pirates, and helping out people in odd jobs along the way.

Escaflowne
High school student Hitomi is transported from Earth to the magical world of Gaea, where she meets boy prince Van Fanel, and is caught up in his quest to unite the countries of Gaea against the ominous Zaibach empire. On the way, she discovers an hidden ability and strives to unravel layers of mystery surrounding Van, his past, and the giant machine known as Escaflowne.


Escaflowne Movie
Hitomi Kanzaki is in a very depressed mood. She only wants to sleep and fade away. Her misery summons Lord Folken who sends her to Gaea. The people of Gaea think she is the Wing Goddess, who can call upon the legendary Dragon Armor called Escaflowne. On Gaea, King Van, the sole survior of the White Dragon Clan, is also in a depressed state. Swearing an oath to get his revenge on the Black Dragon Clan that oblierated Van’s kingdom, he lives by the sword. Now that the Wing Goddess has finally appeared, she posseses Gaea’s world fate in her heart. Escaflowne will either lead Gaea to peace or total ruin.

Mai-Hime
Thirteen girls, each with the ability to materialize “Elements” and summon metallic guardians called “Childs” have been brought to Fuuka Academy to battle mysterious creatures called Orphans. Each with a different personality and background, they must decide who they truly care about and why they fight.

Mai-Zhime
Arika Yumemiya has traveled far in search of her goal: the prestigious Gualderobe Academy. This is the school where young girls are trained to become Otomes, protectors of royal leaders throughout the lands. Here, Arika makes plenty of friends, but some enemies know something about her past that she does not. Nevertheless, her spirit and determination will keep pushing her forward.

Mai-Otome 90: S.ifr
This is the prequel of My-Otome, which predates the events before the My-Otome Series. In this series, it focuses upon the origins of Lena Sayers, the mother of Arika Yumemiya and former bearer of Lofty Crimson Jade / Blue Sky Sapphire GEM, and Sifr Fran, the biological mother of Nina Wáng and the former queen of Windbloom Kingdom, as well as the origins of Schwartz, Aswad, and the Garderobe Academy and its Five Columns. The kidnapping of Sifr and the powerful revelation of Lena’s GEM will soon fatefully determine the outcome of the future for themselves and the others around them.
