With enough instances so far where Marvel Studios has worked from mainline Marvel Universe material and Ultimates material, it’s safe to say that they’re honoring the intent of the comics and what has come before but also making sure that the cinematic universe works on its own. What’s thrown some concern among fans is the change that’ll be implemented where Ultron appears in the Avengers sequel but his creator doesn’t show up until a film later that year with Ant-Man. We’ll be seeing in the future how Ultron’s creation comes about, but Ant-Man director Edgar Wright has made it clear that the character doesn’t enter into his already busy film that is working off the template of the original Iron Man film:
It was never in my script. Because even just to sort of set up what Ant-Man does is enough for one movie. It’s why I think “Iron Man” is extremely successful because it keeps it really simple. You have one sort of — the villain comes from the hero’s technology. It’s simple. So I think why that film really works and why, sometimes, superhero films fail — or they have mixed results — because they have to set up a hero and a villain at the same time. And that’s really tough. And sometimes it’s unbalanced.
