Outside of certain films that have a lot to do with anime and manga source material, it’s not often that you see either of those two elements have a place within live action films in Japan that don’t come from them. The upcoming December release of Mugiko from director Keisuke Yoshida bucks the trend a bit and does it with a bit of fun as we follow the lead, Mugiko, who is coping with issues in her life and takes to her manga and anime for at least a bit during the film and tries to emulate the perky nature of some of the young women in it. The latest trailer has arrived for the film that follows up the director’s 2010 work Triangle.

Plot concept: Snce her father died, Mugiko (Maki Horikita) lives with her older brother (Ryuhei Matsuda). Her mother Ayako (Kimiko Yo) left home when Mugiko was little. Mugiko has not heard from her mother since that time. But one day, her mother Ayako comes back. Mugiko has mixed feelings with her mother’s sudden appearance again, while Ayako hides the fact that she is gravely ill.
