Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
The focus on having Keima trying to deal with two girls and attempting the whole sick routine in order to win them over while keep both girls separate certainly made for some amusing moments in the previous episode. Especially when you have some of the under the sheets gags going on there with what it looked like and the kinds of buttons it pushed for both characters. But the show didn’t spend all of its time there and now with the two girls starting to realize in different fashions that something is going on, all it takes is for one cross encounter to bring it all to the forefront. And having Ayumi come along, frustrated by the whole Mai High Princess thing that was going on, and to see Keima there with someone else. That moment of teenage uncertainty is a difficult one to deal with and all the more so when you’re completely unsure of what your feelings are all about.
With Keima and Chihiro spending time together at the moment as he does his best to ferret out what’s going on secretly inside of her when it comes to the goddesses, he’s finding more and more that how she’s acting is really throwing him off as it’s not following the normal game route patterns. She’s so uncertain and unsure herself but there’s that willingness there that’s really beautiful to watch as she does offer her first kiss to him. But he knows that it isn’t since there was the conquest and the reveal makes it clear that there is no goddess inside of her. It’s a great scene in that it’s a tough scene because you see how vulnerable she is and how much she wants it in her own way, but it’s not something that Keima can follow through on because it’s not what he’s actively seeking since he’s focused about the goddesses themselves. It’s a sad, tender and fantastic scene overall.
This all does lead into the problem with Ayumi as well since she sees what happens as it goes on and gives him what for, verbally and physically. That has all the goddess emotions in her all over the map as she’s asking to come out. Keima also has to deal with later another issue that’s really hilarious as the goddess inside of Tenri gets her to confess a lot of things to Keima while he’s in the tub taking a bath and then switches out just as she’s stripping down. It’s a hilarious bit of back and forth as the goddess is trying to force her out of her shell and get her to admit her feelings. Everyone is confused for different reasons but it just has a beautiful kind of flow to it. The exploration of feelings and emotions here runs the gamut because of the differences in how Tenri is and how her goddess is and that makes for a very enjoyable bit of material.
In Summary:
The focus of the episode is primarily on Chihiro and Ayumi’s situation with a great little detour with Tenri that just makes you laugh after such an emotional sequence of events. The episode also brings Keima back in contact with Elsi as they go and do a little investigating together through an underground cavern that he had dealt with years prior. That adds a bit to the mystery of everything with a curious reveal that’s likely to be explored more, but at the moment is all about adding a new layer to the larger story regarding the goddesses and just how far back everything goes for Keima. It’s a nice closing segment to the show that is well dominated by some of the women in Keima’s life who make some strong moves this time around.
