Alcton Television is continuing to look at properties to bring out and expand its operations with and the latest one is the acquisition of the best seller novels from the series called The Expanse, which began with the 2011 book Leviathan Wakes. The novels are written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck under the pen name James S.A. Corey and according to Deadline, “centers on a high-stakes conspiracy and cover-up of humanity’s first discovery of alien life.”
This sounds a bit different from the more, um, expansive premise that the first novel lists which really has a stronger science fiction feel to it compared to what the concept above sounds like, which can be done in a very limited budget way compared to what the novel premise is. Alcon Television President Sharon Hall will executive produce. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Iron Man, Children Of Men) developed the pitch and will write the pilot for the hourlong drama.
First Novel (Leviathan Wakes) Plot Concept: Leviathan Wakes follows the character of Jim Holden, one of many citizens who have spread out over the solar system and inhabited the surrounding planets. Holden makes his living as an ice miner who accidentally comes across the remains of the Scopuli. It’s on this ship that he discovers a secret that people are willing to kill and start wars for. At the same time, Detective Miller is searching for the daughter of a rich couple, his investigation bringing him to Holden and the remains of the Scopuli. The two men must work together to find out what is going on and keep themselves and everyone else alive.
