For a variety of reasons, World War Z director Marc Forster isn’t coming back and Paramount has been keen to get a sequel going for the film. While the film had problems critically when it debuted, largely due to a lot of pre-release reshoots and events during production that colored views, it still went on to bring in $200 million domestically and $337 million internationally on a $190 million budget. Figuring they can do it leaner and cheaper the next time around, Paramount and Brad Pitt are going for the sequel even though things were seemingly wrapped up in the first film. There were more than a few outs to work with though based on how they ended that film. But that’s the challenge that Paramount and Skydance Pictures will work with when it comes to new director Juan Antonio Bayona, who was last seen dealing with the disaster film The Impossible. While the sequel has been announced and things are coming together, there’s still no release date planned nor a production date start, though that could all come together quickly if Bayona and the team come up with a solid script to work off of.
