Having gotten the nod of Miss Monochrome in the Golden Time series last week, it’s amusing to see the side reference that here as it gave her a bit more exposure. With this episode though, we see the return of Mana as she’s just so excited to see Miss Monochrome but Monochrome is all about wanting to know where her money is. Of course, it turns out that Mana has managed to become Kikuko’s manager in the time since the money was stolen and there’s an amusing kind of connection that comes between Kikuko and Monochrome when they formally meet. And Kikuko realizes part of Monochrome’s secret about how she doesn’t age and reveals that she’s the same, which sets the stage for a length battle to compete with each other on the stage some day. That gives Monochrome all the incentive she needs to continue on, which is something that she’s needed after all the recent defeats.
In Summary:
Bringing back Mana after so many episodes is definitely fun and it all ties back well to Monochrome’s long, deep past with Kikuko and how they’re connected. The show is still an odd piece overall that definitely has its moments, though this one is more surreal than anything else in how it’s all coming back together after the whole of the run just before it ends. There’s not a lot going on here, but having our lead finally meet Kikuko in the present is good and I just love the monotone repeated requests asking where all her money is from Mana. Simple and small pleasures, but pleasures nonetheless.
