Coppelion

Originally planned for an adaptation in 2010, but scuttled down to an actual disaster that occurred, Tomonori Inou’s seventeen volume manga series Coppelion is finally getting the go ahead in anime form. The series is going to get its first episode prviewed this weekend at Anime Expo and Paris’ Japan Expo and the series is scheduled for an October premiere in Japan with the hopes that things have settled down psychologically for people to take in such a show. The seinen series, the first one from Inoue, began back in 2008 and continues to be published in Kodansha’s young Magazine and has racked up some strong numbers.

Haruka Tomatsu,  Satomi Akesaka and Kana Hanazawa are slotted to play the three main characters for the series.

Plot Concept: In 2016 a meltdown of a nuclear power plant creates a big catastrophe in Tokyo. 20 years later, the city has become a ghost town due to the high levels of radiation. From that area a distress signal is received. The Self Defence forces dispatch 3 girls from the special unit Coppelion to search for survivors. But why aren’t they wearing any protection against radiation?
