Pony Canyon is handling the home video distribution for Super Sonico in Japan and they found out quickly after announcing the listings on Amazon that there’s a lot of interest as one flavor of it has already sold out. The series is getting a standard release in two episodes to a disc though only the first installment has been announced for a March 19th, 2014 release. The Blu-ray comes in a regular edition for 6,300 yen as well as a limited edition with a figma included for12,600 yen, which is sold out. The DVD release comes only in the limited edition figma version, which is also instantly osld out, priced at 11,550 yen. While the series may not be lighting fires under fans, the figma versions definitely are.
Each release comes with a few extras including the clean opening and closing sequences and specially illustrated covers for it.
Plot concept: An original anime based on gaming company Nitroplus’ popular mascot, Sonico, Soni-Ani SUPER SONICO THE ANIMATION features the titular character in a comedic slice-of-life series. Sonico’s backstory has her as a college student who somehow also manages to juggle being a model, game character, and a musician in a three-piece girl band as the vocalist and guitarist.
