Legend Of Galactic Heroes
While the sprawling original anime work is essentially in that never going to happen realm of licensing, not for the lack of trying on various studios parts, it looks like a new anime adaptation could be in the works for Legend of Galactic Heroes. The property currently has a new stage production out there in Japan that’s based on the original novels by Yoshiki Tanaka and the finale of it on Wednesday included an announcement that there would be a new adaptation. According to the reports and confirmations out of it, the adaptation is not intended to be a remake but rather simply another adaptation of the original source material. As happens with Hollywood, when a book is adapted, it’s not always the cleanest thing and plenty of changes are made along the way, some of them diverging heavily at points.
The original anime adaptation went for well over a hundred episodes across more than a decade. The original novel work spans ten main volumes as well as four side stories. No information is out regarding who will be handling the new adaptation and what kind of form it will take, but for fans of this classic property, there will be a lot of attention paid to it considering the scale and grand nature of the original anime adaptation.
Plot concept: For decades, the Galactic Empire has been locked in an interstellar war with the Free Planets Alliance, a conflict that involves thousands of spaceships and millions of soldiers on both sides. Two new commanders enter the conflict with great hopes: Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and the FPA’s Yang Wen-Li. As they deal with superiors and subordinates, maneuver through complicated political arrangements, plot strategies, and win battles, each will be tested, and ultimately, changed, by the reality of war.
