InsurgentWhile Divergent won’t land until March 2014, Lionsgate /Summit already secured the March 20th, 2015 release date for the second book, Insurgent, and they’ve also locked down March 18th, 2016 for the third one, Allegiant. All the actors have been locked in for the trilogy aspect and there is something to be said for the quicker turnaround in films rather than the 2-3 years between, which can strain a number of issues and fans themselves. The problem that came up is that the director of the first film, Neil Burger, found that getting the production going for the second film was impossible due to the quick ramp-up and that he was still doing post-production on the first.

That problem has now been solved as Summit Entertainment has signed on Robert Schwentke to direct it. Schwentke doesn’t have a huge slate of credits to his name but he got a lot of positive buzz after 2010′s RED, though the 2013 film RIPD didn’t exactly do well.

Based on the novel series by Veronica Roth which stars Shailene Woodley in the lead role, which is being directed by Neil Burger. The film has a solid cast to it with Kate Winslet, Theo James, Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen and Amy Newbold.

Divergent is set to debut on March 21st, 2014.

Plot concept: DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
